Sometimes you stop to think, why did I do a certain action? Why did I react that way if I could have done it differently? It happens to all of us that we are victims of our own impulses. But are they controlled by feelings or emotions? Knowing this can help us better control impulses, and know how to better react to situations that come our way.

What are emotions and feelings?

From childhood we must recognize the different emotions that are presented to us. For example: joy, sadness, anger, emotion. Among others. Although its importance is not very reiterated in childhood, the truth is that a mismanagement of emotions can have serious consequences on any individual, for example:

  • Not knowing how to react to very strong stimuli, causing anxiety or stress attacks.
  • Defend our thinking at all costs and not know how to admit when we are wrong.
  • Generate emotional dependence.
  • Be very influential and let go of all our reactions based on impulses.
  • Do not differentiate between a negative and a positive emotion.
  • Risking our lives by mistaking an emotion of danger for one of euphoria.

In the same way, feelings are closely related to emotions. But these refer more to a more continuous and lasting state of mind. Therefore, it is correct to say that all feelings are driven by the emotions we feel.

For example, the feeling of being in love (love) is triggered by the emotions of euphoria, joy, happiness. While feelings such as hatred, it is caused by emotions of anger, anger, disappointment, among others.

Main differences between feelings and emotions

Although they may seem the same, the truth is that feelings and emotions present key differences that must be taken into account when wanting to learn more about them. For example:

  1. Feelings always manifest while we are conscious, while emotions appear while we are unconscious.
  2. Feelings last longer than emotions, since the conscious mind spends a lot of time thinking about them.
  3. Emotions come to us very quickly and almost always as an impulse, whereas feelings take much longer to develop.
  4. Feelings cannot exist if an emotion is not manifested in the first place.
  5. A single emotion can be the trigger for many feelings in a person.
  6. Feelings are the interpretation we give to emotions, and they are always regulated by thoughts.
  7. Emotions are known as psychophysiological reactions that happen automatically in our mind.
  8. Although the opposite is believed, emotions are much more intense than feelings. This occurs because in order to develop a feeling, it must be analyzed by the conscious.

Therefore, it can be said that the main differences between feelings and emotions are durability, the reaction we have to them and the intensity of them. However, it is always good to remember that an emotion will lead to the development of one or more feelings. And if we have good emotional intelligence, we can avoid developing unhealthy feelings or that really should not exist.

What is a boost?

Have you ever had a totally unforeseen reaction? Some type of comment, action, or reaction that you have not been able to explain very well why you did it. Those kinds of things happen to all of us, and they are called impulses.

The impulses are reactions or tendencies that certain people have when they act totally moved by a specific and fleeting emotion. This action must not necessarily have a specific or valid reason, but simply the pure feeling that we are feeling at the time of performing said action.

Knowing how to control impulses is essential for us to have a healthy and responsible adult life. Since if you do not have adequate control of your emotions, you will always be acting on your impulses and in most cases, it will bring you many consequences.

Since the impulses do not allow us to think with a clear mind, and we do not analyze the situation until the last minute. If you want to lead a much calmer and more focused life, impulse control is the key.
